Hlídka tornád (Tornado watch) znamená: Podmínky jsou správné tam, kde jste. Není to varování před tornádem - nejsou tu žádné sirény, nikdo ani nepotvrdil, že viděl mrak. Pouze říkáme, že podmínky jsou vhodné, a tak se díváme.
V performanci Hlídka tornád pracují Eszter a Katharina jako posedlí meteorologové a vytvářejí perspektivní změny mezi meteorologickými jevy v měřítku místnosti a předpověďmi kosmického počasí; hrají si s tělesností a umělostí, s časem a zpožděním, se sentimentalitou a každodenními katastrofami. Performance kombinuje předměty a materiály každodenní potřeby s tajemstvími vesmíru a komentuje paralely mezi divadlem a vědou. Svou hravostí a neuctivostí projekt vypovídá o nutnosti zvědavosti v krizi a zároveň klade otázky o zdrojích a hranicích individuální odpovědnosti. Je také o našem vnímání času - pohrává si s vědomím aktuálního okamžiku, rámce představení a procesů, které pokračují po jeho skončení. Jemná zvuková kulisa se v průběhu performance kumuluje, zachycuje a transformuje zvuky deště, krupobití a horka. S těmito lo-fi materiály je pokus o rekonstrukci počasí ze své podstaty absurdní, může pouze selhat - ale právě tento pokus je tak fascinující a krásný. Hlídka tornád je součástí pokračujícího výzkumu dramaturgie pozadí („událostí, které nás neoslovují"), který dvojice zahájila v roce 2021.
Katharina Joy Book je německá spisovatelka a performerka. Eszter Koncz je maďarská vizuální umělkyně a performerka. Od roku 2020 spolupracují na jiných-než-lidských, nenarativních situacích v performanci.

Tornado Watch means: the conditions are right, where you are. It’s not a Tornado Warning - there are no sirens, no one has even confirmed they’ve seen a cloud. We are just saying, the conditions are right, and so we watch.
In Tornado Watch, Eszter and Katharina work as obsessive meteorologists to produce perspective shifts between room-scale weather phenomena and cosmic weather predictions; playing with physicality and artifice, with time and delay, with sentimentality and everyday catastrophes. The performance combines everyday objects and materials with the mysteries of the universe and comments on the parallels between theatre and science. With its playfulness and irreverence, the project speaks about the necessity of curiosity in crisis while asking questions about resources and the limits of individual responsibility. It’s also about our perception of time - playing with awareness of the current moment, the frame of the performance, and the processes that continue after the performance is finished. A subtle soundscape builds cumulatively throughout the piece, catching and transforming the sounds of rain, hail, and heat. With these lo-fi materials, the attempt to recreate weather is inherently absurd, can only fail - but it’s this attempt that is so fascinating and beautiful. Tornado Watch is part of an ongoing research into the dramaturgy of the background (“events that don’t address us”), which the duo began in 2021.
Katharina Joy Book is a German writer and performer. Eszter Koncz is a Hungarian visual artist and performer. Since 2020, they have been collaborating on beyond-human, non-narrative situations in performance.
